Southern Company Business Analyst in Atlanta, Georgia

This position will provide business process and associated system support in general for applications (Oracle Financials Powerplan, Maximo and Third Party) centrally administered/managed by the Shared Services Support organization in support of accounting for all Southern Company subsidiaries. In addition, the successful candidate will engage in special project work to support business process and/or associated technology life cycle changes for the accounting organization and engage in strategic planning serving in AFT Technology Leadership roles as needed.
The analyst’s duties will require working closely with key business partners to provide general business process support executing consolidated system administrative duties like access management, application configuration, and consolidated business processes. The analyst will have a primary role in supporting the Business Operations related processes including month-end close support; allocations support and execution; DRM governance and support; and interface reconciliations. Other duties include a) providing functional end user support including handling Remedy cases b) performing and supporting execution, monitoring, and testing key controls c) supporting audit activities d) collaborating with the Technology Organization for technical support e) supporting application releases engaging in user acceptance testing including script creation and f) engaging in business continuity testing as related to assigned support.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Computer Science, IT or related discipline is required.
Demonstration of sound business judgment and outstanding customer service.
Demonstration of strong organization skills and attention to detail.
Proven working knowledge and understanding of processes and procedures related to Oracle General Ledger, Oracle Projects, DRM, and Month-end Close Activities
A proven individual work ethic and team effectiveness.
Previous experience serving in an application production support role is required including providing functional end user support to multiple user groups.
Previous experience in the performance of technology production processes including functional testing and interface support for Shared Services supported applications including Maximo, Oracle, Power Plan and/or other Third-Party applications is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of Maximo, Oracle and/or Power Plan to perform application functional testing is required.
Data management skills and proven working use of Structured Query Language (SQL) as it relates to TOAD, SQL Developer, etc. is required.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong requirements review, analytical, and problem-solving skills is required.
Familiarity with Accounting Finance and Treasury financial application systems and processes is required
Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies is required.
Providing effective, agreed upon analysis and support to end-users; respond to end-user cases accurately and in a timely manner
Familiarity with other Enterprise Solutions application business processes is desired.
High degree of initiative and personal responsibility “ownership” for assignments.

Application Support and Troubleshooting
Effectively coordinate between end-users, other SSS support resources and Technology Organization to ensure application process/system stability, prioritizing issues, patches, upgrades and enhancements.
Responsible for working with SSS Key Business Partners in the implementation of changes to SSS supported processes and procedures / code changes, including testing and remediation of issues.
Researching / troubleshooting issues that are impacting key processes and procedures across the Enterprise supported applications
Developing, reviewing, and approving application test scripts due to new functionality or current functionality changes.
Serving as an Oracle Financials application Subject Matter Expert (SME) and as a key partner with the TO Center of Excellence organization for Enterprise Solutions application changes.
Ensuring all integration issues for ES applications are managed and resolved timely.
Execute monthly close processes. This will require occasional after hours work every month. Analyze, explain, and resolve problems encountered to support the close schedule.
Resolve system configuration and reconciliation issues in a timely manner by investigating problems and when necessary, working with the software vendor.
Follow Southern Company change management and compliance policies for any required configuration changes to the system
Utilize case management tools to support our internal clients with configuration and processing requests.
Provide support for software release cycles and testing.
Willingness to learn and understand the new Enterprise Foundations environment, interfacing systems and impacts to the close schedule with a focus on Oracle Projects and General Ledger modules.
Support to the Technology Organization with Functional Specification Design.
Special Project support for new applications, new functionality, and business process enhancements.
