IT Group Manager, Computing Services OS and Integration

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the strategic development, engineering and operation of Southern Company’s computing systems, platforms, associated computing infrastructure and services related to the Windows and Linux Operating Systems as well as Integration platforms such as message bus, web services, file based integrations and related platforms supporting these key components . This role manages the design, build, enhancement, integration, provisioning, support and maintenance of the compute infrastructure mentioned above. Working in conjunction with the other areas in Computing Services, Infrastructure Services, application, end user services, and security IT leadership teams and third party technology partners, this leader is responsible for delivering highly reliable, quality computing solutions and services that meet the enterprise’s business needs, architectural and performance standard, while appropriately managing risks.

This position leads an organization that includes 3 direct Managers over the Integration, Windows and Linux technology teams, as well as a Supervisor within the Integration department. The organizational size is approximately 41 technologists over various geographic areas. The leader reports to Southern Company’s Director of Computing Services, Infrastructure Services.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Establishes a strategic direction for enterprise OS and Integration computing services technologies that enables the business to meet its strategic and operational objectives.

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive OS and Integration computing services technology roadmap for the enterprise that transforms business operations and facilitates competitive differentiation and advantage.

  • Drives and manages continuous improvement of solutions and services, including delivery, maintenance, provisioning, production support and reliability.

  • Partners with business leaders across the organization and works closely with IT business partner account executives to ensure that computing services technology resources and strategies are aligned to current and future needs of the business.

  • Applies strong leadership and strategic thinking to a diverse set of opportunities and challenges, serving as a true strategic partner and business enabler.

  • Drives innovation and leverages technology to create value.

  • Establishes and maintains excellent working relationships and partnerships with senior leadership throughout the enterprise, industry peers and groups, external vendors and suppliers.

  • Provides leadership for critical strategic initiatives that improve and optimize the computing infrastructure and fully executes on business initiatives.

  • Delivers solutions that are common where possible and custom where it counts.

  • Provides cost-effective management, rationalization and simplification of the company’s OS and Integration computing services technologies, systems and projects.

  • Enforces appropriate IT policies, best practices, processes, systems and technology portfolio and lifecycle management, and program and project management.

  • Acts as a student of the business and technology, anticipating futures needs and directional shifts in both technology and energy industries.

  • Leads and manages an organization of computing services leaders and technical professionals

  • Continuously monitors and evaluates the operating model and supporting organizational design to identify efficiencies and synergies and ensure efficient resource allocation.

  • Creates an overall OS and Integration computing services budget and manages financial performance.

  • Hires, develops, rewards and retains a highly qualified and diverse leadership team.

  • Creates an environment that fosters accountability, innovation and engagement at all levels.

  • Establishes him/herself as a thought leader and integral part of the Infrastructure Services leadership team.

Education/Experience

  • Degree required; BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience, providing management for computing services engineering and/or support organizations

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Ten or more years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years of experience managing multiple, medium-to-large-sized and cross-functional teams and managing complex multimillion dollar budgets. Management of IT infrastructure is preferred.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of information technology with extensive knowledge of technology environments, including telecommunications, networks, compute, application integration and cybersecurity.

  • Experience establishing and defining comprehensive technology strategies and roadmaps that meet the strategic and operational objectives of the business.
