JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the management and operation of Southern Company’s server-based computing platforms and systems that host add-on software in support of Southern Company’s application infrastructure. These add-on software products can include web servers, middleware, file transfer, enterprise integration broker software, API gateways, etc. This role manages a team responsible for the design, build, enhancement, integration, provisioning, support, and maintenance of these compute platforms. Working in conjunction with Infrastructure Services, application, end user services, and security Technology leadership teams and third-party technology partners, this leader is responsible for delivering highly reliable, quality computing solutions and services that meet the enterprise’s business needs, architectural and performance standard, while appropriately managing risks for compliance and reliability.

The Platforms Support leader reports to Southern Company’s Computing Services, Platforms and Integration Manager and is responsible for approximately 8 technology professionals across various geographic locations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Supports the strategic direction for enterprise computing services technologies that enables the business to meet its strategic and operational objectives.

  • Assists with implementation of comprehensive computing services technology roadmap for the enterprise that transforms business operations and facilitates competitive differentiation and advantage.

  • Supports and leads continuous improvement of computing solutions and services, including delivery, maintenance, provisioning, production support, and reliability.

  • Partners with business leaders across the organization and works closely with TO business partners to ensure that computing services technology resources and strategies are aligned to current and future needs of the business.

  • Applies leadership and strategic thinking to a diverse set of opportunities and challenges, serving as a true strategic partner and business enabler.

  • Drives innovation and leverages technology to create value.

  • Establishes and maintains excellent working relationships and partnerships with leadership throughout the enterprise, industry peers and groups, external vendors, and suppliers.

  • Supports critical strategic initiatives that improve and optimize the computing infrastructure and fully executes on business initiatives.

  • Delivers computing solutions that are common where possible and custom where it counts.

  • Contributes to cost-effective management, rationalization and simplification of the company’s computing services technologies, systems, and projects.

  • Enforces appropriate TO policies, best practices, processes, systems and technology portfolio and lifecycle management, and program and project management.

  • Acts as a student of the business and technology, anticipating futures needs and directional shifts in both technology and energy industries.

  • Supervises a team of computing services technical professionals including performance management and serving as a team resource.

  • Continuously monitors, evaluates, and documents the operating model and supporting organizational design to identify efficiencies and synergies and ensure efficient resource allocation to respond to issues, manage product lifecycles, and meet project deliverables.

  • Creates a platform support budget and manages financial performance.

  • Hires, develops, rewards and retains a highly qualified and diverse team.

  • Creates an environment that fosters accountability, innovation, and engagement at all levels.

  • Establishes him/herself as a thought leader as part of the Infrastructure Services leadership team.

Education

  • Degree required; BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of information technology with knowledge of technology environments, including telecommunications, networks, compute, application integration and cybersecurity.

  • Experience implementing comprehensive technology strategies and roadmaps that meet the strategic and operational objectives of the business.
