Position Summary:

Southern Company, a major U.S. energy firm, is seeking an experienced Cloud Identity Security Architect to design creative solutions and reduce risk. This is a hybrid role that allows for largely remote work, but periodic in-office presence is expected.

This role will have responsibility for setting the strategic direction for cloud identity across the organization and execute projects against the identity roadmap. Interested applicants should be well rounded in their understanding of different security disciplines such as networking, endpoint, data, monitoring, cloud, application security and, of course, identity. Qualified candidates need to be able to align strategy and execution to increase identity maturity, anticipate future requirements for complex hybrid and multi-cloud environments, drive identity initiatives via influence and relationships into business processes, keep up with current security trends, be focused on results, and be a self-starter.

This role will directly support the company’s efforts to mitigate real and potential cyber threats to the company’s facilities, personnel, technology, operations, and brand – including critical electric and gas utility infrastructure and its privately owned telecommunications network.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Set strategic direction for Cloud Identity Security across the organization and assist leadership in shaping our overall security program.

  • Provide expertise to assist in the development of Southern Company’s security architecture – identify areas of opportunity, research alternatives, and recommend solutions.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to our stakeholders, by designing security solutions for better security and business enablement.

  • Align forward thinking strategy with business goals to continuously evolve identity practices and solutions.

  • Engage 3 rd party security experts for risk assessments, architecture reviews, and best practices.

  • Leverage a marketing-based approach to security services to improve technology, security awareness, and compliance.

  • Monitor, forecast, and prepare for new regulatory requirements and technology best practices driven by continued Southern Company growth.

  • Contribute to standards and polices for the identity security program.

  • Enhance processes to facilitate improved operational efficiencies, risk mitigation, and customer interactions.

  • Lead and deliver projects in scope, on time, and within budget.

  • Mentor others to strengthen security principles and best practices inside and outside the security organization.

Requirements and qualifications:

Minimum

  • 3 years of experience and strong technical knowledge of cloud native identity providers, SAML/OpenID integrations, OAuth, MFA, and certificate management.

  • 3 years of experience playing a key role in building an Identity Security program.

  • Experience leveraging dynamic risk, progressive authentication, self-service, biometrics, and Passwordless.

  • Thorough understanding of cloud role-based access controls and their differences from on-prem.

  • Knowledge of cloud entitlement management and best practices.

  • Experience promoting security as a business enablement function using influence, metrics, documentation, strong verbal communication, and presentation skills.

  • A solid understanding of identity related protocols and standards such as SAML, OAuth/OIDC, WS-Fed, SCIM, FIDO, RADIUS, LDAP, Kerberos.

  • Ability to lead a project from concept through implementation and anticipate potential problems.

  • Experience prioritizing and executing with minimal direction or oversight.

  • Must pass all requirements of the Southern Company Insider Threat Program.

Preferred

  • Experience with Azure Active Directory in addition to another cloud identity providers.

  • Competency in APIs (Rest, Graph) and/or JavaScript/Python/JSON/SQL.

  • Industry certifications such as: CISSP, CCSP, CISA, GIAC, OSCP, CRISC, CCNP, etc.

  • Experience with information security frameworks such as: COBIT, NIST, OWASP, etc.

  • Familiarity with nation state, sophisticated criminal, and supply chain threats.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of current hacking techniques, vulnerability disclosures, and data breach incidents.

  • Working knowledge of cloud and traditional security network architectures.

  • Experience with cybersecurity analysis and analytic tradecraft.

  • Desire to apply understanding of IT cyber threats to map global cyber security risks to the energy sector and to industrial control systems.
