Cloud Product Manager (Atlanta or Birmingham)



This position is responsible for cloud financials, cloud service provider management, cloud metrics and cloud processes. This includes:

  • Ensuring adherence to & application of best practices across cloud providers.

  • Providing technical governance around cost control & consumption management.

  • Developing workload hosting cost comparisons among on-prem and cloud providers.

  • Vendor & contract management:

  • optimizing purchase discounts and managing service level agreements

  • owning relationships with IaaS and PaaS vendors

  • advising on SaaS contracts

  • selecting & interfacing with third-party cloud managed service providers

  • Collaborating with Accounting Research to understand and advise on cloud capitalization opportunities.

  • Conducting benchmarking, measuring & reporting usage statistics.

  • Understanding and advising on cloud-related software licensing models.

  • Advising on the cost aspects of workload placement options.

  • Conducting cloud budget forecasting & providing variance reporting.

  • Continuous analysis of emerging cost models among providers.

  • Defining cloud-specific processes for provisioning, deprovisioning, operational support, billing, etc.

  • Applying Application Hosting and Asset Tiering principles to balance service/cost mix.

  • Acting as a cloud service advisor & broker.

  • Interfacing with Supply Chain, Strategic Supplier Management, Quality Risk & Compliance, Application Portfolios, and others as necessary.

  • Translate needs of cloud consumers into standardized cloud technical service offerings.

  • Strategy around delivery of cloud technical services.

  • Contribute to development of overall cloud strategy.

  • Responsible for development and maintenance of cloud technical service catalogs.

  • Facilitate training on cloud technical service catalogs for cloud consumers.

  • Serving in on-call rotation as Escalation Manager for Critical Situation Process.


  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with cloud product management is preferred.

  • A solid understanding of accounting and budgeting.

  • A solid understanding of contracts and licensing.

  • Ability to understand and articulate the “big picture” long-term vision for the infrastructure and develop short term plans to achieve it.

  • Ability to analyze information from multiple sources for complex problem resolution.

  • Ability to assess cloud provider solutions to provide “asset value appropriate” service levels at the lowest cost.

  • Ability to assess managed service providers (including cloud) and provide cost analysis and comparisons.

  • Ability to organize tasks and coordinate various employees, vendor/contractors, and customers/partners to meet project goals.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritizing major tasks by overall impact to the company.

  • Ability to communicate and work with all levels of management, vendors, and other internal and external groups.

  • Ability to effectively lead committees and teams, train personnel, and make presentations.

  • Understanding of rules and regulations that govern the use of technology, such as NERC CIP, Sarbanes-Oxley and internal policies


  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or an Engineering field strongly preferred; four (4) years of relevant technical experience is an acceptable substitute.

  • A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of service (depending on job level) as a Cloud Product Manager or relevant technical experience. When relevant technical experience is substituted for a degree, the minimum experience requirement increases by four (4) years.

  • A minimum of two (2) years working with IT budgets and or cost allocation experience.

  • Prior experience working with cloud hosting solutions is preferred.

Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • Application Architecture – general understanding of application layout & design, deployment, standard middleware options, data gateways, and platform infrastructure.

  • Automation and Orchestration – scripting, API interaction, etc.

  • Governance – understanding of governance issues as they relate to effective, efficient use of cloud computing, billing issues, cost management, account management, etc.

  • Infrastructure & Operations – sound understanding of compute, storage, networking, and management of infrastructure operations.

  • Integration Architecture – including integration among data, identity management, network, and applications in a multi-cloud environment.

  • Security – must understand delineations of responsibility among cloud providers and cloud users. Must understand how security is managed by both and best practices for each.
