Description

Generation Specialized Infrastructure (GSI) has an opening for a SQL Server Database Administrator within Infrastructure Services in the Technology Organization. This position is responsible for the daily tactical support and helping develop and implement the strategic vision for the Generation Specialized Infrastructure SQL Server environment.

Responsibilities also include installation, configuration, life cycle management, problem resolution and ongoing support of all SQL Server databases, while understanding and adhering to appropriate compliance processes and controls. The position focuses on the daily work required to operate the database environment focusing on availability and efficiency and requires specific operating knowledge of our environment, which includes server virtualization and clustering. In addition, this position is focused on the development and automation of support tasks, processes and procedures. This position also supports major project initiatives that impact the Generation Specialized Infrastructure database environment. This position directly interfaces with developers and business partners to support and drive project and operational success.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide database administration, operational and project support for the Generation Specialized Infrastructure SQL Server database environment. Responsibilities include installing and maintaining SQL Server databases to support unique business partner requirements. Vendor management for support issues, root cause analysis.

  • Develop and support automated processes and procedures for DBA support tasks, including database provisioning, retirement, break/fix opportunities, compliance, inventory management, and reporting, using standard and enterprise tools.

  • Provide consulting and project support on SQL Server database platforms and support and operation considerations and development and project activities.

  • Provide and support full life-cycle management for SQL databases.

  • Follow standard processes for hardware, software and project completion, problem resolution and change management.

  • DR testing and support.

Education

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS or related work experience desired.

Experience, Skills & Abilities

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with SQL Server databases (SQL Server 2014 or above) including installation, configuration and support (including vendor coordination and liaison) required.

  • SQL database administration skills, including the ability to understand, administer and provide tactical and strategic operational support of complex virtualized and clustered environments. Ability to provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for SQL databases in a SQL Server environment ranging from 2014 - 2017.

  • A minimum of five (5) years database, server and technical problem resolution experience in a complex infrastructure environment required.

  • Experience working with SQL Clustering technology and SQL Server Availability Groups.

  • Experience developing automated support processes and procedures via programming or scripting.

  • Writing and troubleshooting SQL, TSQL, or PLSQL in the form of Scripts, Views, Functions, and stored procedures.

  • General knowledge of Windows and Linux environments.

  • Possess highly technical problem-solving skills and ability.

  • Ability to consult with business partners and other departments within GSI and more broadly the Technology Organization on database environments and support principles and processes that are utilized within GSI and IS and provide input as to how GSI can successfully meet business partner requirements.

  • Knowledge of relational data structures and standards.

  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts and technologies and transition knowledge & skillsets to new situations.

  • Professional oral and written communication skills.

  • Data Integration, DEVOPS, Software Development experience a plus.

  • SQL Server certification a plus (MTA, MCSA, MCSE).

  • Knowledge/Experience with SOA a plus.

  • Knowledge/Experience supporting AGILE development a plus.

  • Experience with Oracle databases a plus.
