Summary of Duties

Power Delivery (PD) Technology GIS plays a vital role in Alabama Power Company's planned strategic direction and daily operations. This Information Systems Analyst position will support the function of maintaining GIS servers, tools and mapping products (digital, printed, web maps, iPad applications, etc.).

This position is responsible for data processing, and maintenance of GIS data in accordance with PD Technology work procedures, as well as performing data analysis and a variety of other mapping requests.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting GIS operations for the PD Technology group, participating in a creative and highly motivated atmosphere, contributing toward product development, end-user support, and the creation of innovative GIS tools.

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with maintaining GIS applications for PD Technology

  • Supports PD and other customers with mapping, data requests, data analysis, data conversion, and other related tasks

  • Provides input on support and improvement of ArcGISPortal, and GIS Web viewers. Manages design, scoping,and training for user groups

  • Apply skills and knowledge to troubleshoot and creatively solve mapping issues

  • Support GIS workflows through ESRI’s ArcGIS ModelBuilder and other automated interfaces

  • Supports Supervisor and provides input regarding technology decisions, data acquisitions, project scoping, project workloads, and priorities

  • Support requests and products related to storm response

  • Web development for new Transmission applications and tools

Job Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required

  • Degree in Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or GIS-related field preferred

  • Certificate in GIS is a plus

  • GIS Professional (GIS-P) Certification a plus

Experience

  • Five or more years of experience working in a GIS field is preferred

  • Expertise in the administration of ESRI’s ArcGIS Server products preferred

  • Advanced knowledge using ESRI’s ArcGIS software

  • Experience with ESRI Portal and mobile tools, such as Collector and Explorer are a plus

  • Experience with ESRI’s JavaScript web API’s is a plus

  • Maintain current knowledge of GIS industry trends

  • Experience managing SQL databases is a plus

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of GIS theory and application

  • Broad knowledge of Remote Sensing, Global Positioning System (GPS), and the application of other GIS technologies

  • Proficient with ESRI software required; AutoCAD a plus

  • Working knowledge of Python, JavaScript and/or other programming languages a plus

  • Efficiently utilize Microsoft Office including: Outlook, Word, Power Point & Excel

  • Proven ability to multitask and complete assignments under pressure

  • Possess strong decision-making abilities

  • Analytical approach to problem solving; creatively apply skillset to solve problems

  • Able to maintain focus on assigned tasks

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
