Description

The Southern Company Gas, Enterprise Decision Support and Governance (“EDGE”) Organization’s objectives are:

  • To enhance the overall value of the company with the implementation and adoption of Data Driven Decision Support through:

  • Leadership of an enterprise strategic data governance process

  • Leadership of an enterprise strategic data management team

  • Governance of the production of high quality, immutable data (Golden Records) on which critical decision support platforms can rely – Strategic Data

  • Governance of the strategic intelligence logic and platforms that produce all decision support information for the business

  • Driving the evolution and improvement of corporate decision making through new methods, technologies, logic, and concepts

  • To establish and govern Strategic Data as a Corporate Asset across the enterprise by

  • Facilitating organizational alignment with a data and information driven decision-making culture

  • Establishing and Maintaining Sponsorship and Support at all organizational levels

  • Implementation of long-term training and implementation programs for data and information literacy

  • To implement a clean, clear source of data on which future generations of AI can build new insights for the Enterprise and provide Strategic Decision Support Counsel to the Leadership of the Company

The Analyst I, Data EDGE is responsible for the Logical Data Models and solution design activities of the Decision Support and Governance plan and ongoing participation in the platform development and testing activities. The Data Analyst will develop an understanding of current data state, workflows and processes, and develop solutions for integrations, transformations, and deliverables. This will include data analysis, data mining, technical support, and database maintenance to meet internal and external customers’ requirements. This role requires demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and recommend the best track for data development and processing. Project work will involve process improvement, quality control, data creation from spatial and tabular sources, conversion, migration, and maintenance.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Functional Expertise:

  • Liaise with the business to: Gather, Manage, Analyze, Integrate & Translate Decision Support Requirements into Enterprise Logical Data Models

  • Identify and Manage Physical Sources for Logical Data Model Data

  • Manage, Design and Build Ongoing Changes & Enhancements to the Logical Data Model

  • Define and Design all Decision Support related Logic, Output, Rules, Error/Gap Management and Scoring Specifications

  • Act as QA, Test and Acceptance Body for all Decision Support Extraction, Storage & Management Solutions

Business Acumen:

  • Assist in defining and proposing new projects for the decision support organization related to new versions of the decision support platforms and applications. (Analyst I)

  • Assist in working with the Technology Organization (TO) to abstract and organize the project specific reporting, analytics and information requirements implied or explicitly requested through the wider range of investment proposals put forward by the business and organized and collated by TO. (Analyst I)

  • Define and propose new projects for the decision support organization related to new versions of the decision support platforms and applications. (Analyst II)

  • Work with the Technology Organization (TO) to abstract and organize the project specific reporting, analytics and information requirements implied or explicitly requested through the wider range of investment proposals put forward by the business and organized and collated by TO. (Analyst II)

  • Define and propose new projects for the decision support organization related to new versions of the decision support platforms and applications. (Sr. Analyst)

  • Work with the Technology Organization (TO) to abstract and organize the project specific reporting, analytics and information requirements implied or explicitly requested through the wider range of investment proposals put forward by the business and organized and collated by TO. (Sr. Analyst)

  • Assist management in decision support by improving access to performance metrics and reports while adhering to data and analytics governance.

  • Perform internal audits to ensure processes are followed correctly

  • Lead and perform internal audits to ensure processes are followed correctly (Sr. Analyst)

  • Analyze and interprets data to identify process gaps.

  • Work with various stakeholders to implement process improvements.

  • Maintain the data integrity in the business data and works with TO and the business to resolve issues.

  • Analyze financial and non-financial data to help drive business decisions

  • Provide application support/planning in the areas of fact-finding, installation, testing and follow-up for the development of new and upgraded decision support solutions.

  • Participate in testing and implementation of enhancements and new solution projects at an enterprise level.

  • Coordinate with Training Department to capture end-user impacts as a result of enhancements and new solutions,

  • Provides individual effort for tasks that need to be included in work plans.

  • Assess and identify tasks and resources that need to be included in the work plan (Sr. Analyst)

  • Proactively review current data and analytical trends to understand the impact to current state at the enterprise level.

Engagement:

  • Assist with coordination and implementation of special projects (i.e. Management of Change)

  • Lead and implement special projects (i.e. Management of Change) (Sr. Analyst)

  • Lead Logical Data Model workshops as continued iteration of LDM encompasses more areas (Sr. Analyst)

  • Provide various support to employees and contractors (i.e. technical business support)

  • Review the decision support solutions – identify errors and collect feedback

  • Identify, document, and communicate application enhancements to TO

  • Test application upgrades in all systems associated with EDGE

  • Ensures tasks and deliverables are complete on time as to not impact other team members

  • Lead team efforts to identify solutions and make recommendations to resolve known issues (Sr. Analyst)

  • Develop and maintain client relationships at the enterprise level to ensure a balance between standardization and jurisdictional differences

Driving Results:

  • Responsible for driving individual and project team results, prioritizing work, evaluating results, and taking corrective actions as needed

  • Ensure internal controls and governance are achieved in compliance with policies and standards. Understand, execute, and improve upon all components of the methodologies utilized

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Preferably in Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or other technical discipline/experience

OR

  • Equivalent academic education and experience

Related Work Experience

  • General knowledge of natural gas distribution facilities, Company policies, procedures and gas operation methods and standards

  • Knowledge of GAS datasets and disparate databases

  • 1-3 years’ experience supporting data solutions (Analyst I)

  • 3-5 years’ experience supporting data solutions (Analyst II)

  • 5 years’ experience supporting data solutions (Sr. Analyst)

OR

  • Equivalent academic education and experience

Specific Skills & Knowledge:

Required:

  • Ability to quickly learn new skills and abilities, database technologies, data modeling, and scripting as needed

  • Strong analytical, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills with ability to elicit and efficiently document business rules and research technical issues

  • Experience working in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment with cross-disciplinary teams (Analysts, Developers, Architects and Data Scientists) and business groups (technical and non-technical)

  • Microsoft Tools Suite

  • SQL and relational database experience– basic proficiency

  • Strong written and oral communication skills both upward and downward throughout the organization

  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of the organization

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to read, interpret, and implement codes, standards, and procedures

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to identify process improvements and develop appropriate processes and procedures

  • Project Management experience; specifically in agile framework (Analyst II, Sr. Analyst)

Analyst I

Preferred:

  • Exposure and knowledge of Agile Framework and Methodology

  • PowerBi or Tableau visual tools – basic proficiency

  • Knowledge and experience with customer and/or asset data

  • Python – basic proficiency

  • Exposure to Azure or other cloud-hosted solutions

  • Exposure with ETL (extract, transform, load) tools

  • Exposure to GIS tools/techniques, including: Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcSDE, versioning, and geoprocessing

  • Exposure to spatial and non-spatial database design, structure, and management – including the manipulation of tabular data in GIS, and joining/linking related data

Analyst II

Preferred
